Abstract
There is a growing rate of youth having to live with major depression and 10.6% of the US's youth population live with severe depression. According to Mental Health America, despite the increasing rate of children and teenagers experiencing depression, less than 1 in 3 youth receive consistent mental health treatment. Low self-esteem is something that one can experience whether they're a child or an adult. It often starts during one's childhood, however, since that's the age where experiences leave the strongest impression. The United Kingdom National Health Service asserts that having low self-esteem can be detrimental to one's mental health and cause problems such as depression and anxiety.
I chose to try to find a way to help alleviate these problems because there was a period of time in my life when my self-esteem was at its lowest and I couldn't talk to anyone about it. I decided to choose this topic because I feel like my idea was something that I would've liked to have around when I was having a hard time. Though the app was not created to be a cure, I wanted it to incorporate all the functions of individual apps such as Reminders and Notes so that it's a singular resource to write down one's troubled feelings and deal with stress. My app is the best solution because it incorporates a variety of resources to deal with mental health that is easily accessible and doesn't cost money to operate.
